Help me spend my bonus

We're already:
Spending a week in the Eastern Serrias with my family
5 days on the East Coast
River trip
Backpacking trip

I get that trips are cool. But I'll counter, and ask why? What is going to make Iceland cool with your family? From my experience when your kids are young it's just about doing new stuff together, which can totally be cheap and local. As kids get older, and they've already acquired an amount of experiences, good and bad, and they're capable of actually engaging in a place, then it's the time for extravagant travel. I'm not there yet, another couple of years.

It's like... You don't waste good wine (or whiskey) on a 21 yr old. They're not capable of appreciating it yet. That's the same approach I take on vacations with the kids. When they're in HS and college I'm sure we'll go all over. But not now.
I get it. Yellowstone with my young kids was seeing all the attractions.

Yellowstone with my grown kids was three days of good fly fishing, drinks at the hotel, rodeo in Cody (I know) and good stories over camp fires.

We're always on the go with our kids visiting new places and travelling Canada/US. This trip is also for my wife and I, parents need something fun for them too.

I have great memories of trips to Europe with my family when I was around the age of my oldest. I 100% guarentee you those trips were not wasted on me, and have sparked a sense of adventure which I still have now. Sure, you don't need to go to Iceland for that, but again, parents need something nice too!

I really liked my truck cap, but if you're looking at removing it often, don't get a solid cap. Mine was a solid fiberglass cap and it was such a pain to remove, it was easier to buy a trailer and keep the cap on. (First world problem) Softoper makes a waterproof, collapsible topper that works great for what I need.. Much more feasible if you want to collapse or remove the cap frequently. Plus they're way cheaper than a fiberglass cap.

So with that in mind, buy you a Softoper and you'll have money leftover for that man bun caliber you're looking for.

Rifle Option 1: Fancy long range shooter. I have a tikka 270 that I hunt with, it checks all the boxes for an all-around rifle. But it's not a 600 yarder. Probably in manbun caliber or something similar.
Anyone have specific recommendations?

Sounds like most of the options would just be an upgrade. Others would be cool but I think you’d get a lot of utility out of a truck cap.

I’ve not owned a truck without a topper since the first F150 I bought at 17, and I won’t own a truck without one again. Always having stuff you need, protecting things you have temporarily, being able to grab a beer with your elk in the back and not worry about thievery, a shelter in a pinch, and your Xmas tree will likely still fit. I’ve started using a utility trailer for firewood. Way easier and can fit more, but certainly another expense. Toppers just rule.

Congrats on the bonus and Merry Christmas!

Topper.
Not as sexy as a vacation or a gun, but it’s incredibly practical. If you’re splurging, get one customized with all the windows and accessories and such that you think you’d ever want.
My pickup came with a nice solid Leer cap, but the sides are just slide vents and leave me wanting more. Don’t skimp on good lighting either. Ive always wanted a light bar that’s mounted inside the topper that can be aimed down and back to light up behind the pickup for setting up taking down camp, loading gear, hooking up trailer, etc.

Second the Softopper. I have one on my Ram 2500 that spends most of the summer pulling a fifth wheel. Being able to fold it forward in a pinch or fully remove it in 5 minutes with one guy is the only way I could feasibly have a topper.

That’s a great point for the soft top! If you think you might remove it at all this is a super good option. Never thought of the removal part being easier with the soft top

I got my best bonus ever this year. Promptly paid off my daughter's car, my wife’s exercise bike, and our credit card. Then I went and bought myself 2 pairs of Levi’s, some mechanix work gloves, and a $10 set of razors. Hope I get another bonus next year, will probably need razors again. LOL.

But back to you: whatever you do, buy a high quality (even if very expensive), useful item, that will LAST many years.

I don’t know what kind of money were are talking about, how savvy you already are with your money, etc etc.

Need alert…but if it was me I would fully fund a Roth IRA for the calendar year for my wife and kids and use the rest of the money to pay off bills.

Maybe not in that order, depending on the size of the check and also depending on what tax implications it may cause me.

Spend it on what Excites YOU the most!
That's sorta the problem. The older I get and the more money I make, both the less I want to spend it and the less buying things brings joy. I was hoping the HT crowd would provide some inspiration.

Retirements get fully funded every year already. I have no debt that I'm looking to pay off.

Take a family vacation.
Best advice so far.
Take a vacation *without* the family.

Failing that, a classic wood-stocked rifle in the .257AI or any 10mm handgun would get my vote. I built a .257AI off a CZ 550 FS a couple of years ago and have fallen in love with it as a stalking rifle. If you want to scratch the 10mm *and* the wheelgun itch, you might look at one of the Ruger GP100s or the Smith 610.
