Havalon Knives ?

I started carrying them in our retail feed store after I bought one.

If you are buying your first one the 60A blade models are a thicker blade than the Piranta Edge with the 60XT blade

Models with the 60 A blade include the Bolt (plastic handle) and Torch (aluminum handle)

ETA:
It also appears the the new models of the Edge will now accept 60A blades. The one I bought must have been a close out...

I did a complete gutless method cow elk last year including taking off the head to be tested for CWD. It took me two blades and Randy's video on the gutless method downloaded to my iPhone. Probably could have done it with one blade if I knew what I was doing. No bone saw....it worked like a charm. Only thing I will be carying.

i have the torch with the 60a blades and i have the edge with the 60xt. i actually prefer the 60xt blades. the prices of the 60a blades are about double of the XT blades too. once you get used to letting the knife do the work for you and you dont break many, they 60xt blades will be a better deal and i feel like they are sharper, but could be in my head too.

Pretty hard to beat a Havalon just to keep around for skinning if nothing else. To me a mudded up elk can dull even a good sharp blade on a regular knife in no time. I keep a heavier duty fixed blade knife for boning and stuff like that.

Just received ad for $10 of next havalon knife order at checkout use code SAW2014 good till 9/30

I like my havalon piranta,,,but keep extra blades as stated and a leatherman handy for safe blade replacement,,,use the havalon for cutting only,,,use another type of knife for cutting things like elk hip and knee joints and tendons.

After reading everyone's thoughts, and doing a little more research. I decided on the Outdoor Edge Razor Lite, overall I like the design better, and I don't think braking blades will be as much of a issue.
and the blades look safer to chance with the way they lock in.
I will let you know what I think of it for sure, after I get my Elk in October. I hope anyway.

Buckykm1, I know my post is a little late but do yourself a favor and buy a couple victorinox knives and give them a try. You WILL NOT be disappointed! They are around $15 each and better than most knives I've tried..especially for skinning. I have a havalon piranta and don't like it what-so-ever! The blades are too stiff and snap fairly easy. The Piranta is super sharp but since they don't bend and snap easy are quite dangerous. The Victorinox are super light, sharp and are super easy to sharpen. As Redwood mentioned the Victorinox come with a garbage plastic sheath...beware it doesn't prevent the blade from coming through! I have never snapped a Victorinox. The Victorinox is my preferred skinning knife at a fraction of the cost of others. If you loose one....no big deal and they are a fantastic skinning machine!

Ooops, I lied! The Victorinox paring knives start at $4 and the most expensive ones on thefind.com are $10. You can't loose giving them a try and won't be disappointed!
