Hand Held GPS or Cell Phone

I was faced with uprading my GPS to the tune of 4-600 dollars. Bought the OnX app for Montana for 30 bucks. Still working through it, but liking it so far. mtmuley

Do you use anything for emergency rescue, something like SPOT? I don't have one, but it's in the back of my mind that if something goes down... Well my wife would kill me if I wasn't already dead. That's probably the best argument for the standalone GPS.

InReach.

*Better Satellite

*Able to text to family. Family able to text to you. Esp. great if family emergency and they need to get in touch with you. Not bound to only preset SPOT type texts... Text what you want.

*Share detailed mapping with anyone (i.e. family). They are able to track your location based on the frequency you set.

*The InReach pairs with your phone.

*InReach has multiple plans available.

SPOT may have caught up a bit since... I purchased a SPOT several years ago due to a great discount though returned it based on friends here and elsewhere.

Very glad I did.
