GWP training

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with training GWP. It's going to be a learning experience for both me and my first GWP since my only experience is in labs and Springers! Any tips on what to expect with GWP training would be greatly appreciated!

Read "Training the Versatile Dog" by Charlie Johnson, and "Smart Fetch" by Evan Graham.

Gun Dog by Richard Wolters. I read his Water Dog when I trained my first lab. His books are very informative and instructive.

Also read up on marker training. It is incredibly effective.

I couldn't disagree with this more. If the TP situation really went south this book would have been the first one with torn pages.

Be an absolute stickler on obedience and start right away. You’ll be amazed at what a solid foundation you can build in the first few months using positive reinforcement and setting your pup up for success. Please don’t be the fool who lets your pup off leash at the football field then screams your head off to come, and then spanks him when you finally catch him.
