Gun Porn Wednesday - Reloading

You need a load of a fast burning powder. I'm using Titewad, but any fast burning powder such as Red-dot or Bullseye will work. Like anything it is best to work up a load, I went from 9 grains of TW to 14 grains and settled on 14.

In general, almost all references to COW or polenta loads run 13-15 grains of a fast burning powder.

I've always used Cornmeal. If you choose to use soap, bt sure it's soap and not detergent.. Ivory is the best. Detergent/anti bacterial bath bars contain any number of chemicals that can erode/corrode the barrel. Parafin works well also.

It is that time of year, I have three rifle projects right now but they are cartridges I am already real familiar with I just need to collect some more components. I am going to develop a load for my 45 70 and think I will try Barnes 300 grain fn and maybe rl7 or something,

I am working with my buddy in a load for his recently acquired 600 Overkill which is kind of fun. Those 900 grain bullets are monsters. It's also crazy to realize you only get about 45 cartridges out of a pound of powder.

So how do you know when your load is right, I'm assuming accuracy doesn't come into play here?

I measure my shoulder, and visually inspect my neck. I have several cases where I did FF load with 60 grains of IMR4350 and a 140 Hornady so I compared my polenta loads to those. My neck isn't as uniform with the polenta, but I intend to neck turn the cases anyway.

I've thought seriously about some AI/wild cats, but it seems like a pain to do the cases. This seems much more efficient and cost effective.
