They must have sensed the snow coming in. 9 ruffies and one spruce. Should have had my full ten birds which is a one man limit of ruffed grouse in sask. lots of good eating again

I had no idea there was a Shangri-La that allowed 10 ruffed grouse. That alone would be worth immigrating for.

I have a dog but it’s more successful for ruffed grouse to get them yourself. I shoot most of them off old trails and logging roads. A flusher often results in no shot but really helps if you need to find wounded birds. A pointer would be the way to go but I don’t hunt upland enough to justify a pointer

Never even seen one of them ruffys.......tries a couple times with no luck though. Might need to do a trip the extreme north!

Nothing like grouse, although I prefer blues, the ruffed are certainly more photogenic. This is just how this bird landed in the woods, showing off the perfect tail...

No blues here but from my understanding they are large birds with white meat as well? If that’s the case I would agree bigger birds means more delicious meat

This is a blue grouse, not quite as big as a chicken, but easily the best eating upland bird, even besting the revered pheasant...

I prefer ruffed grouse over pheasant. Also a lot easier to shoot ruffies and I don’t have to drive 4-6 hours to get into pheasant country lol
