PEAX Equipment

Greetings from Legacy Sports Int.

Welcome and thanks for sponsoring the site and Randy. We all try to support the sponsors when we can. I am in the market for a rifle for my little one (12) and am trying to find some Howas to "try on" for her. She is about 5' and I am looking at probably 7mm-08. What would you suggest in the line up?

we offer a youth model in a scoped package or rifle only. it has a shortened stock with a 12.5" length of pull and a lightweight #1 contour 20" barrel. .243, 7mm-08 and 6.5 creedmoor are great lighter recoil rounds that will most certainly get the job done on medium game.

7mm-08 will have the greater recoil out of the 3, .243 and 6.5 creedmoor are more than manageable for younger shooters.

Matt, welcome to the site! Appreciate your support of us DYI public land hunters

all of us here at legacy are public land hunters, living in Nevada we really only have public land options. Honestly, i dont think id hunt any other way!

Oh snap does Legacy bring back some good memories. You guys have represented some very fine products over the years. When I got laid off a while back I used to help my brother out with his gun business. I would work for him on weekends and just sold the heck out of the old Baikals you used to distribute as well as Howas and Tonnfoglio handguns. I still have a Baikal M153. My brothers kids all shoot the Escorts. Sorry to say but mine shot my old Browning A5 20. You guys always delivered great customer service and quality products.

Howa needs a stainless gun with a stock other than a Hogue. A B&C Medalist would be nice. And some 26 inch barrels on magnum cartridges. mtmuley

+1. I had actually been meaning to ask this on here.

I am not a big Houge fan. Too chunky, flexible, rubbery, I know it is personal preference, and it just isn't mine.

Unfortunately, the only stock B&C makes for the 1500 is the Weatherby pattern; which I also don't care for.

When I bought my 700 in .223 last winter, it would have been a Howa barreled action, if the aftermarket stock choices would have been better.

Matt, have you considered reaching out to B&C about building another pattern for your barreled actions similar to the B&C Alaskan II? They are a great stock for the money! I bet you would see a boost in barreled action sales, or a rifle stocked with one of these.

While I am an unabashed Remington shooter, I'd give a Howa a shot if it came with a proper stock. For me, even factory Tupperware beats the Hogue. mtmuley

yes, we have sold rifle options in the past with B&C stocks. but the demand wasnt there. you gotta rememeber, for something to become viable to bring to market it has to sell, a lot. If sales of that item run stagnant then it doesnt make sense in keeping it around. We sell A TON of Hogue stock rifles and i honestly do not recall a single issue with them that weve experienced. For many people, an expensive factory stock option isnt in the cards. Many people re-stock them if they want to upgrade. We do offer the mountain rifle like Randy shoots with the Mark Bansner stock, but that is short action only for the time being.

The aftermarket companies do what they want, unless we pay for stock molds or buy "X" amount of their product, cooperation isnt that strong.

Thanks for the reply, Matt. I am certainly not saying there is anything wrong with the Hogue stock, tons of people love them, just isn't my thing. Totally get the market too, I was really just curious. I will bug B&C about it. ;)

I was fortunate enough to get to handle one of Randy's Alpine rifles, and they are awesome. Great job on those, and the Banser is definitely a sweet stock! Hopefully one will be in my safe in .308 someday.

i have a B&C stock on two of my Howas, had to bed them though as the front lug wasnt quite where i wanted them to be contact wise. They are a nice stock!

I'll second the comments about not liking the Hogue stock. I'm in the market for a .243 for my kids and the grip on the stock is just too fat for their hands. It's almost too big for me. It's a real detraction for me wanting to buy one. I love the Banser stock on the Alpine but that's a bit out of my budget.

If the Howa was at some time offered with a B&C, must not be a stretch to at least offer it as an option. I'm not gonna buy a rifle with a stock I hate. It is an additional expense just to get the rifle, then change stocks. mtmuley

Picked one of these up two weeks ago for my wife/kids. It's a 308 and may be my new pack gun after shooting it and packing it around. The short stock is comfortable enough I don't know if I'll be changing it out often if ever. I can load lighter for the kids to keep the recoil down and the stock width doesn't seem to be an issue. Overall I've been impressed with the gun I got for the money.
