I left the house at 5 AM yesterday to go check out a new spot. When I got there, I found it burned to a crisp without a stitch of grass cover. Plan B yielded the same result.
Fortunately plan C came together and we found some birds. The last covey of the day was a bunch of mountain quail. I’ve never shot one of these little buggers before. They sure are cool.

The dog and I got an invite to go for a boat ride on Wednesday courtesy of BAKPAKR 's brother.
I’ll post more in a thread later, but my dog must have crashed off a rock or cliff today while out of sight chukar hunting. I beeped her to come in to change directions when she was out 400 yards.
She came up to me and collapsed. I carried her out a mile. I thought blood sugar. Vet says internal bleeding that has stopped. He thought spleen, liver or uterus were damaged by blunt force trauma. She had a cut on her chin too. Sounds like a cliff jump. She’s stable now spending the night at the vet.

Hope she heals up fine. Finn must’ve taken quite a fall this year and came back bleeding from his mouth and acting ringy.

She’s recovered and running around the vet office. Vet told me at the time he thought it might be two concerns, crash injury and RHABDOMYOLYSIS. He’s seen it in sled dogs. He’s thinking it happened too based on test results. Funny. She’s in peak shape after five months of bird season. She had internal bleeding too. He’s going to watch her for the day. I’ll pick her up at 5pm.
Other symptom I didn’t mention was she’s in the early stages of pregnancy. Vet said lots of pups. This vet told me I could hunt her…. I had to tell my wife that six times last night after hurting her baby.

Happy to hear she is recovering quickly!! My biggest fear is coming home to tell my wife her fur baby was injured badly while hunting.
Glad she's recovering! Scary stuff.
I brought my lab home from a trip to MN once and she was completely raw and skin cracked and peeling in her armpits and around her eyes and nose...obviously in tons of pain and just shaking and trembling and could hardly move. I felt terrible and she obviously felt worse. Vet thought she ran through a plant she's allergic to...it was like a really bad chemical burn. Lots of pain meds and Took 4-6 weeks to heal. Still not sure exactly what caused it.
My kids were like, "maybe we shouldn't hunt her anymore. "
Fortunately she made a full recovery and our family has been out hunting together more and seeing how much she truly loves it.
