Hi folks!

I am NOT getting lost this year! I'm in the market for a GPS and I'm curious what everybody has and I'd like to know the pro's and cons.

I've used a bunch of them. Trimble, Rockwell, Garmin, etc.

For the hunter, fishermen, hiker, I'd recommend the Garmins. Inexpensive, accurate, and easy to use. You can load map info into them as well. They range in price from 100-300 depending on what you want.

I have a magellan sport track. I think it was around $250. I can download all the maps I need in its memory (non-expandable). Easy to use, but the battery life is only around 7-9 hours. It would be nice if those lasted longer for long trips.

Agree with Buzz here on the (for most purposes) cheaper Garmin line for most applications- have picked up Etrex units on Ebay for as low as $72 and the Geico's I've seen go in the $60's. Jut depends on how many bells and whistles you want.

One other word-
Spare batteries,Spare batteries,Spare batteries,Spare batteries,Spare batteries,Spare batteries,Spare batteries, and did I mention Spare batteries?

Lowrance x15's.... oops wrong type.

I have a meganlan that was given to me but I havent used it yet.

I use an Garmin Extrex Legend, hand held for trips afield. On the boat I have a Garmin 128. I like them both. My cousin had a Magellan, it got rained on and quit working. Thats not good.

I have a rino by garmin. nice unit, and the one to get if you ever use a 2 way radio with a buddy.
