Hi all!

Is there a layer function in Google Earth that makes 2D or 3D topography look like the following.....

If not Google Earth, some other application?

Thanks!

HAHA!

Thanks all!

I guess what I am looking for is a feature that allows me to type in an number, and then it highlights all land above it. For instance, if I wanted to see everything everything above 8500ft, I would type in 8500ft and everything above that would highlight.

Google Earth has a terrain elevation exaggeration option, just turn it up to 3 and you can see the terrain features in 3D and get an idea of peaks, valleys, high points, etc.

I should probably do this (or maybe turn it up to 2 or something) to give me a better feel for what it is actually going to feel like when I'm out there on foot climbing some of the "hills" I scout out on google earth. Everything always ends up a LOT steeper when you are out there in person than when you are looking at it from the comfort of your chair looking at the computer screen.

I have mine turned up to 1.2 to provide a more realistic view of the terrain.

I was just going to ask about that. What am I missing out on? I really need to invest some time in learning how to better use it.

The biggest advantage for my recreational use is being able to import shapefiles directly. A lot of state GIS departments don't have their data downloadable on .kmz files, but they almost all do on shapefiles.

....and some folks don't know how to read a topo and see a shear2k face.
Internet scouting is fun.Good source of info and data.
Check Flashearth too. B&W currant sat pics with better close up imaging than gaggle.
I like playing with mapping systems to some extent but hate Goggle.Or is it Gaggle?Crome suchs too.
And sat.photos are cool but nothing beats boots on the ground to see the burn is 20ft of dense aspens this year really.
