Good Times in New Zealand

Well after waiting years for the chance to hunt Red Stag my dream finally came true. The country was AWESOME! After 5 days of blown stock after stock I made it count on day 6 with this great stag. I will never forget this day. Also took a nice Araparwa Ram

Beautiful country and animals. Congrats! I know there are various ways of hunting New Zealand, were you on a free range enclosed hunt area? Who was your outfitter? Would you recommend him to someone else? Thanks.

Here is what I learned about the hunting in New Zealand.

There is free range hunts but there is a catch.
1. Season is open 12 months a year so anything that gets any size gets mowed down fast.
2. Public land is very limited thus making those hunts even harder.

3. Don't believe there is any way to get the meat back to the USA.

4. Poaching is a very bad problem on free range farms. people hunting at night and on bikes and cape and run is there goal.

5. Place we were had did have about 20,000 acres hat surrounded their hunting property that was used for cattle and sheep and we did see lots of red deer on that property but most were small stags.

All though we did see a nice stag that was on the hunting area that 2 days later was out and on the free range so I'm guessing with the fences they have if the animals want to come and go they do.

We hunted with ASJ Trophy hunting on the south island,

After researching place's at SCI and Dallas SCI I found that they had the largest property available to hunt. It is 12,000 acres and getting bigger.
Also they are not a place that runs as many people through as possible so when you our your group are in camp that's it just you.

Would go back with them in a second. The owner/PH has hunted all over the world and is a very good a his job.
