Good eats in Montana?

I'm going to be headed to Montana in a couple of days to go deer hunting and was hoping someone would have some great-can't-miss spots to share. I get sick of hitting the big-name fast food joints all the time and was hoping to get the names of a few better places to try. I hope that opening line didn't sound like I was trying to weasel in on your favorite hunting spots, but if you were about to spill the beans . . . . I'll be traveling I-90 coming from Washington to meet a friend in Billings and then on to the Forsyth/Miles City area. Later we're planning on going to another area near Dillon. Lots of driving, always looking for good food wherever it can be found.

Parker's in Drummond on the way over for a great burger, and The Hitchin Post in Melrose on your way down to Dillon, if you take the interstate.

As a rule of thumb, if you're looking for a place to eat in small town Montana, go with the mexican place.

The ribs in Willow Creek are amazing. Make sure to take cash. They don't take credit cards. There's a place in Miles City just past the Exxon, I believe it's called the Boardwalk, that has great chicken fried steak. Most importantly, don't pass up the opportunity for a jalapeno cheddar corn dog at any TownPump gas station.

Derby for steaks in Butte, Cafe Zydeco in Bozeman for spicy New Orleans food - great on a cold day, Wilsall bar and cafe for burgers - one of the best I have ever had. Good luck and good eatin'

It's a little out of the way but Jersey Lily in Ingomar...sheep herders hors d'ouvres. Dave's Sushi in Bozeman.

The Calf A in Dell used to be the best place in the world to grab a home cooked meal. It's a little south of Dillon but used to be worth the drive. I still remember real roast beef cut 2" thick and pie that was twice as tall as it was wide. The walls were covered in antiques and the counter was old news papers. It was like eating in a museum. Haven't been there in years maybe someone can update me.

Thanks to everyone, now I'm taking notes & marking the map, at the same time I gotta remember the focus is on the hunting, not a warm restaurant and good food . . . . . I'm already losing focus.

If you're headed to Dillon, slip over to Twin Bridges and hit up the Old Hotel. It's a great place for high quality cuisine. Everything is homemade, and from local sources.

Glad to see someone post about the jersey lily I love that place no where better to be after a long day.

The Wisdom bar used to have awesome (and huge) burgers, might be worth checking out. Rileys Irish Pub here in Helena.
