Gobble gobble Spring Turkey 2025

I got another win today. The land owners who I trap for and who give me access called me for a third year in a row to ask me to help their friend get a bird.
I gave them exact spots, told them the lay out, and he hammered a double beard today.

Year 1 & 2 was a younger girl who would come out with her faither (friends with LO). I gave them all the intel and she killed a double beard bird the first year, then a bird with 1 1/2" spurs year two.
Then this guy who came in today killed a double beard.

It's great from the perspective that them giving me access, allows me to manage for quality, but also be able to help them back when friends come in.
Win, win, win.

I get my second tag on Monday, but Ill be out this weekend helping friends and hopefully getting my daughter on a bird.
Remember when I said he killed a double beard today…. 😬

It was bigger…

I don’t know about western birds but from experience the best way to learn turkey hunting is by turkey hunting. The difference between a turkey and elk is if you spook a turkey it won’t be 7 drainages away in 30 minutes.
Haha I figured finally got some new calls and new areas to head to this weekend

Decided to run up on the ridge this evening after work. Yelped for a couple hours and nothing, but didn’t expect gobbles in the evening. Finally I decided to make anything around jealous and decided to do a gobble just with my mouth. A big boy lit up about 70 yards behind me. I grabbed a wing and started beating the ground a bit to make it sound like a gobbler on a hen and he gobbled again and ran in to 37 yds. I smoked him with the new Mossberg 500 pump .410. Super light short gun really going to like it I think.

Next stop for the .410 Merriam’s in MT next month! Hoping to get my first bird out there! And a bear while I’m at it. This gun is small enough it will fit completely in the scabbard of my Eberlestock pack I’m looking forward to running and gunning!

Yesterday evening I had 4 hens in my little spot, and lots of fungi. 2 roost gobblers elsewhere, a quarter mile apart, and both on public. I need to decide if I want to pick a whole bunch more morels, or try for a turkey tonight.
Not much better than killing a bird knowing you have to pick mushrooms before you leave.
