Just curious what you guys with bull elk tags are looking for this season? If I were to have a tag I'd look for these in no specific order.

1. B&C or better net bull

2. Something unique or non-typ.

3. A mature 7x7

4. A great overall hunt regardless of success.

You could have number 4 with a cow tag...

This will be my first year ever not hunting elk...

My 13 year old son and I both have controlled hunt rifle bull tags in a good area in Idaho. My goals are pretty simple, in this order...

1. Have a great time with my son, get to know him better.
2. Have my son kill a bull that he is happy with
3. Kill a 330 class bull myself ( a pretty good bull for the area )

I would be pretty happy with that, but could stand a couple of 350's as
well:D

I would prefer a big typical symetrical rack, to the non-typical

Really looking forward to at least a couple weeks in high country, with abundant wildlife:)

I favor number 4...

The rest are a bonus and if they happen great...

I’m after the whole outdoor experience thing... :)

For many limited entry units, I could easily go with that list. For the OTC units that I've hunted it would be more like this:

1. Overall good time-->try to check out some new country/areas
2. Any 6 point will do
3. Any bull will do

My goals are

1. Have a good time away from work
2. 300" or better bull, not many B&C's running around in CO
3. catch a bunch of fish in mountain lake
4. Fill the freezer with any elk with antlers

#4...same as always.

I have gone without taking one home for 3 years now (mostly my shooting skills). Going to lower my standards this year and hope to kill something so I go broke on the flight home....
May hold out for a P&Y the first couple days but after that any branch bull may be in trouble if pickings are slim

Living where I live, I'm damn spoiled. My goal is number 4, and have already acomplished it. More so looking forward to a long and exciting elk season. Just a few years ago, I'd have been pissed about the opening weekend I had.. shit weather, blown chances on good bulls.. just means more hunting plans. The weekend was damn exciting and there'll be more action to come over the next 3 months..

So Stan, knowing you do have a tag (and knowing where it's for), which # do you honestly think will fill the bill for you this year? I know it's #4, but let's just say ...

Anyone of the 4 would be fine with me.

Living in AZ your quality elk hunting chances are usually few and far between. It's hard to let "good" bulls walk when you're not sure when your next bull tag will come. I haven't said much about my upcoming hunt on the WWW but I'm starting to get excited.

Someone in my group (3 including me) will take a big bull. I've been out a lot and know what to expect on this particular hunt.

Branch antlered bull with my bow. If not with my bow, I want a six by with my rifle. Most important though is the time spent with my Dad.

I leave for the Gila on Monday. My most realistic expectation is #4, or my own #5 - "Being away from the modern world and the hassles it provides."

If the elk gods smile on me and combine #1-#3 in one big bull, I hope I can maintian my composure well enough to knock an arrow.

I think any elk in cateogry 1-3 is pretty safe when I am sneaking around with a sharp stick on a string.

Much fun to be had. :D:D:D

#4 and no cell phone service! I am just looking forward to taking a friend who has'nt killed an elk out west and I am Flying my son up the Friday before the Season so he can have his first Elk hunt, so if either of them connect, great! I was gonna bring my horses back out this year but the guy I am taking is kinda short and my horses spook when the step ladder hits a tree! John

A mature five point with the bow would be awesome. A last day spike within sight of a road would be okay as well.

My primary goal is to get away from the hectic business climate, cell phones and heat of central Calif. and spend a week in the cool pines and aspens. Wake up and hunt if I want to, sleep in if I want to. I would love to stick an arrow in an elk, bull or cow, but if I don’t, no problem.

Something tells me Stan has a few of the #1-#3 bulls located and he is playing humble here. I suspect he has at least one bull located that is a net 380+, 7X7, with a cheater. That would meet categories 1-4. And for a fall back, he has two others that are almost as big.

Come here acting so casual about elk hunting. We know better Stan. ;)

Any guesses on Stan's new handle after he arrows the one he is watching? Probably something like AZ410NT?

Good luck. Looking forward to the pictures.

I wish that were the case but this isn't one of "THOSE" units.

My gut feeling is the AZ402 will still be intact after this season.

Friday morning can't get here soon enough!!
