For those of you that don't know, I'm BigFin's son. He's off having some fun in Nevada with my mom, so I'm alone in the house for the next few days. Around 11:00 this morning a UPS truck pulled up to our house and unloaded a few boxes outside the front door. I was happy to find out that these boxes contained optics, hats, and other accessories from Leupold. It was like being 10 years old at Christmas time.

I immediately nominated myself as official first impression gear tester for On Your Own Adventures and started "testing" the equipment. There are a few items that I really liked.

The first is the MX 321 Modular Flashlight. It has a nice feel, is sturdy, and seems like an overall well made product.

Next are the Golden Ring Binoculars. They have a nice size and feel and (to me) the glass seems to be very good, although I'm not binocular expert. They came with a nice carrying case and straps.

The last two items need further "testing" so I will only give my first impression of them.

RX-1000 rangefinder - The ads on tv say that this thing is small, but I didn't realize exactly how small. It is smaller than if you stacked two decks of standard size playing cards together. It has a rubberized grip and a nice big power button. I think it will be good once the time comes to range animals. Note: we did not get the ones with True Ballistic Range, although it seems like it might be a useful feature, especially for bowhunting.

The last of the goodies that I had a chance to look at was a VX-7 scope. It has already been decided that this is going on my usual gun (.300 Win Mag). It is a beautiful looking scope, although it is kind of big. I can't wait to put this on my gun and try it out.

Cornell,

I bet those were some fun boxes to dig into!!

Did your dad fix the hole in the wall where your elk used to hang yet or is he leaving that to you while he is off having fin in LV? That is a great bull. I want one like that someday! Have a great weekend.

Glad they showed up Cornell. Randy mentioned he wanted me to field test the rangefinders on my upcoming mountain goat hunt. If it is not too much trouble, could you forward those ASAP so I get acclimated to them...thanks....;)

No, he didn't fix it. Personally I think that we should leave it there so that the next time he tries to hang something that heavy on sheetrock it won't do any worse damage to the wall. The couch covers up the big hole anyhow.

Really I think we are just lucky that nobody was sitting underneath it when it fell. It surely would have put a good bump on somebody's head.
