Gaiters - Do you use them

Always at least have them with me....

I use them a lot. Saves pant legs, keeps brush from pulling on pants and laces, keeps burrs and such out of your socks, and they keep you dry. I use a quiet pair from cabelas early season and have some more stout kenetreks for later. Most hunting style pants I have found to not be long enough for me so they equalize the high water effect too.

I wear mine if I'm walking through dry grass with burrs and other seeds in the fall. It really helps and I hate it when I forget them.

I bought them originally for snow. I've since started wearing them every morning unless its bone dry or hot. Wet dew on the grass will soak pants and socks much faster than it takes to dry them.

I have Black Diamond brand and I've had them for years. Still haven't worn them out.

So in following this thread it confirmed to me as well I should be getting my first pair of gaiters. I have never worn any befor so do all you guys have a pair you prefer? Ones that get the job done yet a quiet enough so do some closet stalking if needed. You guys prefer 8" tall, 16" tall or other? I have a November WY deer hunt ahead of me, might want a pair after reading all these comments.

I use the tall kennetrek ones. What sold me was catching a deadfall branch down inside the boot laces, thus ensuing a rapid "header" which could have been real ugly. plus they keep all the stickers and twigs and such out of the socks. Read the reviews on cabelas too. Cheap apparently doesn't cut it for most.

Much better pairs out there but for something cheap but useful look at kings camo gaiters. Not bad for the money. Outdoor reasearch has a good following but I find them a bit noisy for eastern hardwood where I normally hunt. Kenetrec seems to be pretty dang hard to beat.
