Spent the weekend helping out with the annual walleye spawn at Nelson Creek.

Lots of big fish to see.

It is always interesting to watch the process start to finish

Yes the MTFWP runs this every year to collect walleye eggs for the Miles City and Fort Peck hatcheries. You just have to volunteer. They provide everything but your lunch. Waders, waterproof jackets etc.

We meet them at the Fort Peck hatchery in the morning and then go out to Nelson Creek on the Big Dry Arm where the spawn barge and nets are located. They are always looking for volunteers.

Thanks for the info. What do they put in the traps to encourage the walleye to go in there?
