Friday Chasing music.

Kerouac was one of my favorites in college. If you got a problem with the beats, you gotta problem with me!!
I liked it in college too. And why not? "On the Road" is a paean to dead"beat" narcissists who leave a trail of deserted women behind while they "chase" their pleasures. It's no wonder college guys like it. Then we grow up and learn people are not objects of our pleasure.

The lost generation was similar; Hemingway, Cummings, etc.

I didn't see as narcissistic, but searching for meaning after the massive effort of WW2. Ginsberg I never cared for, but Ferlinghetti, Courso, Kerouac & others opened me up to a variety of new ideas & cultures. They were a strong representation of where America was, and where it was headed.

I get it. I first read Kerouac about my senior year in high school. My dad was still busy beating a work ethic into my thick skull. The wildness it represented appealed to me. I had no idea at the time experientially what most of the book meant.

I read it again as a 50something and was shocked at how changes in our own lives affect how we see things.

Back to music.....
