Looked at a lot of elk today!

Found a herd in thick brush, so I set up across the canyon at exactly 448 yards. Clicked in the elevation, set up the shot, and waited for one to step into the clear.

It took a while, but one cow came into a small clearing. The rifle went boom and the cow walked into the brush.........not the reaction I wanted or expected. No thwack, no jump, nothing....just meandered back into the heavy stuff.

I went through the shot over and over again in my head. The rest was rock solid, trigger pull was good, I HAD to have drilled that elk.

The herd was still there, undisturbed. I glassed for a while, trying to see sign of a hit, but nothing.

I walked down and up the other side and blew the herd out of the valley.

I got to where she was and found sign of a hit.

Followed it about 30 yards and there she was.

Very satisfying hunt after a frustrating archery season!

Excellent eats! Best of luck to all this season.

Nice fat cow, congratulations!

I'm heading off into the wild elk yonder pretty soon, hope to find one just like it.

I've got me one of those Colorado "freezer allocation tags," also. I hope to have as much success as you have had in filling those tags. Congrats.

Ha! I thought by your text yesterday that you were unsuccessful. Nice job.
