"Free" Toprut? Didn't see that coming

OnX crashes all the time on me and I'm constantly restarting it. And no I don't look at porn on my phone on purpose.
Didn't use to happen in past seasons.

Is top rut worth my time if I already have goHunt?

Got the email about a month ago and signed up for toprut. Looked at it a few times and for someone like me who doesn’t get out of state much I’m happy with it. GoHunt may be more user friendly and flashy but the cost wasn’t worth it to me after a year of use.
Didn’t have any problems with OnX this year but I barely used it compared to previous years. I haven’t even tried the 3D mapping yet.
Some of the discounts through OnX are pretty decent.

I had zero issues with OnX this past season, though I'm sure I don't use it as much as some. Running a 3yo samsung phone, my app is up to date and doesn't have a 3D button? Interested to try out Top Rut, I've been using Hunters Trailhead the last few years.

Well, I just tried to use TopRut to look into WY antelope. I was quite disappointed, the WGF website is a significantly better resource.

Up until this year I've always had good success with OnX. I preloaded a bunch of maps for an out of state hunt in the medium resolution. When I got to my hunt area only about 1/4 of what I downloaded were actually available. Luckily I had decent service on the hunt.

As for Top Rut. I like it for what it is. I always verify my data on the state's site anyway, but TR gives my a quick visual reference to narrow down the possibilities available with my points.

Anybody else having issues logging in to get benefits? I just tried logging in to look at toprut but it just keeps redirecting me back to the same page asking me to log in again. Tried it from both my phone and computer with the same result...

The only onx issue I have had was last year and the missing map overlays which happened after an update. The next update fixed the issue and the app continues to work as designed. I have 70+ hi res maps on the phone and add other data depending on the state. The only freezing issue I have seen personally was my partners and that was caused by too much data on an android phone. Droids have very little RAM memory (16-32 gig) and it fills up fast, as such I don't recommend onX for android based phones if someone asks. Gaia is a better option in that instance. If you are e-scouting on your pc, use google earth pro. Nobody else is even close. Toprut is an odds site, gohunt is a more robust product and the two really aren't comparable.

I did one circle, then reread their directions closer and I was clicking the wrong link, once I got to the toprut site it went easy peazy

Android here, that makes sense. Be interesting if others here having problens are using android as well.

I just tried again through a different computer and it worked. Not sure what happened in my case, but I’m in now!

nr Elk Regular GEN point pools

Ok, that is very slightly more useful than that WGF provides. But with the volatility of draws odds from year to year, breaking it down into separate categories for the "<X" applicants doesn't provide me with much benefit.

Plus if we shift to Wy Deer, the G&F website given me some idea of unit quality for MD. But I will admit there is probably more info on TR that I'm unaware of and will take time to learn. I am already not a fan of the graphs vs tables on G&F.

Toprut doesn't have a lot of extra info, mostly draw stats. Depending on the hunt, individual point pools can be good info. A person wanting to draw a gen tag and on the cusp should be looking at that info in my opinion. Knowing how many applied for points only would also be beneficial but not many will go thru the hoops to get that data.

Good point. One thing I think that is understated comparing top rut/go hunt to individual state to state data is the uniformity of the Presentation. Your not going to have a learning curve of getting a feel for the lay out of the data for each individual agency. For me this a huge time saver.

Just tried toprut out. Looks like a useful tool. It does seem like the info I looked at is also pretty accessible on the state websites, but some of it is easier to find, cleaner, and quicker. In some cases I like the state info better, but that might be because I’m used to it. Not sure I’d pay for it, but good to have since I get onX anyway

I used OnX all fall for hunting in both Minnesota and Montana and I can't recall my phone freezing up one time. I have a Samsung S9 plus and it has worked great. I hunted a lot this fall and OnX worked great. It is interesting that some people had all kinds of issues and others didn't have any.
