For those thinking to move to Montana aka “The Nuclear Sponge”

First strike capability is lost somewhere in the Cold War. Within a millisecond, any missile launched anywhere in the world will be noticed and we have the capability of neutralizing the threat, instantly. Minuteman missiles were put in place in the 1960's and designed for a different type of conflict than we would see today.

Communist missiles could care less what is in a silo in Montana, they are focused on more strategic locations.

This is what the NIKE missile site in Alaska looks like today. Decommissioned and put into moth balls.

I am not concerned with missile silos located in Montana as much as I am with the influx of hunters, using modern technology to seek out the last best places in Montana...

Seems that endangered species consultation and social justice issues would have to be worked out beforehand. Everyone needs to get nuked equally. Permits for the "take' of listed species would have to be issued prior to detonation.

All rural places in the continental US are under siege following the 'rona pandemic, as people flee the urban centers. For me personally, the only silver lining to having grizz spreading throughout MT is to scare off some of those people who may not be so dedicated to staying here, just sayin.

Just as soon go quickly if it comes to that frankly. Not shooting my neighbors over rice and beans in the dystopian scenarios so popular these days. And don't want to die a slow death from radiation poisoning. Guess it would melt my gun collection though. Oh well. At least no more guides, so there's that. ;)
As a kid in the 70's, I woke up every morning 20 miles from a nuke silo in ND. I found it oddly comforting to know I didn't have to worry about Russian/American nuclear war - I would be vaporized before it had hardly begun and I would never know it happened.

I hope the Laramie range is enough to protect us when Cheyenne gets nuked. It would be a real shame if that happened. Lots of moose in those hills.
Would the Russkies need to draw moose tags first? The only thing worse than eliminating humanity would be to be labelled a poacher on hunt talk.

Wait a few years, New Mexico is full of abandoned silos.

What would happen if a nuke hit the Yellowstone caldera?

Maybe this will make some of the transplants run screaming out of Montana. This, and the below zero weather that is here this week. Maybe a deterrent for those considering also. mtmuley

My family is always so worried about me living close to the Yellowstone Caldera.......they all live in Eastern ND, next to 1/3 of the world’s nukes.

Regardless of local, we’re all done if either decides to go off.

So how close to Yellowstone would a nuke have to be to trigger a blast from the super volcano? Click Click - boom

How about big expensive homes for absentee owners....acceptable compromise?

My favorite beer was from Montana....but apparently that microbrew is no longer?

It's not. Sold out to someone big I believe August Schnell in MN, and haven't seen it in years. A friend of mine had a black lab descended from Chugwater Charlie Hill, whose picture is on the bottle and pawprint on the cap. Asked if we could get a discount since we drank a lot of his beer. Firm, but polite, no.

"Nuclear Sponge" brings me memories of NBC training and decontaminating myself with these gross ass sponges in CS gas and rocking my greased up gas mask and gloves for hours...
