Fisheries & Wildlife Declines in the North Pacific
Alaska's North Pacific Ocean is home to one of the richest assemblages of marine wildlife in the world, as well as some of the most productive commercial fisheries. This map indicates the species of fish, marine mammals, birds, and crabs whose populations have decreased significantly in recent years. Fisheries that have been closed due to declines or collapses in fish stocks are also noted. The fisheries and species indicated on the map illustrate only the populations that have been studied and monitored over the last decades. There are thousands of species of marine life that we know little about.
