First foray into the woods

Lurker, first poster now. My brother and I have been lifelong hunters but have never ventured out West for big game. I have a million questions, and I know most can’t be answered until we’re there and are doing/seeing/experiencing it. A spring/summer scouting trip was not in the cards so I’ve based my ragtag plan on Randy’s e-scouting videos. We’re heading out next week for third season OTC elk in southern Colorado. We’ll have a half to full day of scouting depending on the drive in. I’m trying to narrow down glassing locations. I was curious about leaf loss on aspen trees and how that affects feeding and glassing opportunities. Thanks in advance!

Glassing opportunity increases significantly when not only the Aspen, but also the oak brush loose their leaves.
