My 14 year old son has been out with me a couple of times over this weekend; NY's youth deer weekend. I've been trying to put him in my best spots, hoping he'd be able to shoot his first deer and after several close calls where something went wrong, he got it done this morning. We surprised this doe on the way into a sitting spot and she kept us playing statue for about 10 minutes, him in mid-stride. Fortune smiled on us and she settled down. Eventually, though he couldn't see the deer(a tree was blocking his view), I was able to let him know when she started walking again, and he did a nice fluid 90 degree turn, while kneeling and finding the deer in one motion, setting himself up for a 45 yard shot. This is his fourth season hunting deer and his first one ever. Proud morning! Now to try and find one for the middle son!
