Took the bow out for my first deer hunts over the Xmas / New Years break. Very happy with the results and ended up with two deer. Both shot on public land. Heres a few iphone photos.

First bow deer. Yearling hind neck shot at 30 yards. Only went about 14 yards so was an easy find

Type of country I was stalking. Perfect for bow hunting as a lot of grass and enough cover to get close.

Second deer by bow. This was also a neck shot, but at 21 yards.

The area was fairly open country but waited until the deer (there were two together) walked into some scrub. Ended up being a 1.5 hour stalk.

Here is the result of the Thunderhead boardhead. The young spike literally dropped on the spot.

Very happy with the Elite Energy 32. Off for a chamois bow hunt next week :)

Congrats! Neck shots like that take some pretty good bow shooting skills. Well done!

PS- What kind of pooch was with you?

Thanks 1 pointer. The pooch is a Vizsla and German short haired pointer cross.

I've never heard of people taking neck shots with a bow but it seems like it was an effective method. I like your Elite!!

Congrats on a successful hunt. I need to hunt with you. I've been archery hunting public land all season and haven't killed a single deer. I've only had one shot opportunity and it wasn't a very good one as is evidenced by my miss.

Thanks Colberjs. I can take you out for a hunt anytime. I'm hoping to visit USA in September, looking at a deer and elk archery hunt.

Filling the freezer there, great work.

What are you trying to do in september? There is plenty of options self guided, do your research, get tags, hire a car and go hunt self guided, can be arranged easily in a number of western states.

Thanks havegunwilltravel. I'm looking at a self guided bow hunt in Idaho. Have got my sportsman id set up and can now buy tags. Still doing my research on units but south eastern Idaho looks good, with OTC tags available. Have you done a trip over there?

Also plan to start collecting preference points in Wyoming (pronghorn & elk), Utah (elk) and Colorado (deer & elk).

Ok your getting sorted. Apply in AZ as well if you can afford it and build your points up.

You can go rifle hunting in South East Idaho as well pretty easily.

What units have you considered? I have guided for a few years down there and some good animals in certain areas if you can get off the roads and into basins over the back of steep ridges that most guys aren't interested in climbing over.
