Finding the animal you shoot

Ok ok, I know that sometimes even the best hunters out there can't find a downed animal, and yes some people say they shoot and hit just to make themselves look better. I'm not sure of the percentage of recovery, I just wanted to bring up a point and get everyone thinkin on the subject. If these guys I'm talking about really did hit no matter what the weapon then why no recoveries? Did they make good shots, were there deflections, did they really search hard and long? I don't know all of the answers but I do know that after the shot is when the real work begins, tracking skinning, quartering, packing, what ever the case. If you claim to be a hunter work your butt off before and after the shot.
