I've had pretty much ZERO luck so far this year. Lots of deer but no shot, shot a doe but too high and lost the blood trail, no deer at all, etc... Today the wind was just plain wrong for my stand but I can't kill one sitting at home so I went out for a try. Saw a doe with a nice buck trailing her that went off and away from me. Later, I turned to look behind me at a noisy squirrel only to have it actually be a doe and fawn 20 feet away. They blew out from seeing me move. Nothing after that for an hour or so, so I decided to try to stick a squirrel with the arrow from the doe I lost previously. I never washed the blood from the feathers and they were all matted down and looked like a stick! It wasn't 5 minutes later the leaves rustled behind me and her comes the doe and fawn again. No time to switch back to a good arrow. I hoped for the best and got lucky. The crappy arrow didn't fly as expected but stuck the doe right in the neck and dropped her in her tracks. If you can't be good, be lucky. I quickly nocked a good arrow for backup but didn't need it. The fawn circled around and kept looking at mama. It was a button buck and pretty big for this time of year, and I was REALLY wanting meat for the freezer, so I drilled it as well. Two deer down in less than a minute. With a bow! Now I can relax and wait for gun season. I've got 3 tags to fill so with a little bit of luck we'll be sitting good for venison this year.
