Leupold BX-4 Rangefinding Binoculars

Finally some good news

Thanks for the response
You're welcome. Don't read to much into this question it's not a gotcha or anything. Would you support the use of thermal optics during rifle season for disabled hunters? Or maybe a disabled hunter allowed to use a scope during an otherwise primitive muzzeloader season with open sights?

No that wasn't directed at you at all. I meant that towards everyone who claims it's the same. I mean if it's the same and your able why would you spend that kind of money and drop the compound? I've got no problem with you as an individual using it if it's legal. My problem is with putting the blanket across regular archery season and treating it as regular archery equipment. It's not.
Are modern compound bows regular archery equipment? I don't particularly like crossbows during archery season but modern compounds are every bit as capable in the correct hands as a crossbow.

Put a recurve in the hands of a good archer or a ok archer and there effect hunting distance won't be that different the same can't be said for a compound so the technology is making a big difference and giving a specific user group a advantage.

I agree with most of what you're saying. My 6 year old could probably shoot a deer at 50 yards with a crossbow. Tomorrow with about 5 minutes practice.

I would like to see that let a 6 year draw and load a crossbow and then get it on target with no assistance from a adult not as easy as you making it look

I didn't say that I said shoot it. Happens all the time.

Yeah and you can take about any adult and put a modern bow in Their hand and in less then 30 the can be on target out to 50 and a few months most are proficient out to 70 fairly easy with the current bow sights it's not that much Investment and then you have good archer that can shoot 100

I used to think crossbows made a big impact but with hunting in a state that allows them for anybody to use I have hardly seen any in the field

I disagree.

Cause they are the dental dam of hunting equipment

Can you envision the pumpkin patch when we get to only "any weapon seasons". Maybe we will have to draw for time periods to spread the pressure out.

My 8 year old can draw and load his and handle it completely on his own. Killed a buck this year with no help from me other then sitting in the blind with him.20241115_174650.jpg20241116_113919.jpg

Don't worry boys he already has a real bow just not enough strength to legally meet our draw weight requirements.

Very big difference in hunting elk out west then hunting with a locked and load crossbow in a blind though.

Every crossbow hunter i have seen in the mountians didn't have them ready to shoot all the time while hiking around I assume that is standard practice hunting in the mountains. (Very small sample size though so maybe i an wrong about that)So I would like to see your 8 year old in a hurry draw and load a arrow and get a shot at a bull on the move. Probabaly not going to happen.

Regardless, a crossbow does not belong in an archery only season. No one is arguing opportunity. There is plenty of it during any and all rifle seasons. I shoot a recurve, have target practiced with compounds and crossbows and there is most definitely a difference.
No one is arguing opportunity, just the season, what’s the phuckin deal!?!

Yup the same difference there is between a recurve and compound there is actually probably a bigger advantage going from a recurve to a compound then a compound to a crossbow. I say recurve only for the archery only season is the way forward

Then take it to your Fish and Game commission. The discussion here is crossbows in archery seasons.

Man that’s awesome!
Was it in an archery season? Or firearms restriction of some sort?

It certainly isn't going to happen we don't get in a "hurry" with weapons that's how accidents happen. I would have more confidence in him then some grown men though. But it's honestly a moot point as by the time he's old enough to stomp around the elk woods with me he won't be using a crossbow.

I have a complex relationship with crossbows I really despise them in archery season. So one may ask why let my son use one? Tomorrow isn't guaranteed this year could very well be the last one I get with my kids nothing is guaranteed in life except death and taxes. I love hunting safely and legally with my son a hell of a lot more then I dislike crossbows. The crossbow my son uses I orginally bought for my dad a man who hunted with a longbow exclusively during archery season for roughly 40 years. He refused to use it and just stopped bow hunting when he no longer could handle his longbow. I didn't understand that at the time but I get it more everyday. I have used that crossbow to kill a deer as I won't let my kid use something untested. While I agree with the sentiment that a compound is as bigger or equal jump in technology as from compound to crossbow. That thing was much easier to master and takes much less practice to maintain one's skills then a compound. I fought years ago to keep them out of archery in Oklahoma I was very concerned about the effects they'd have. I'll be honest it's been over 5 years maybe close to 10 and I haven't noticed any difference. But western states with limited draws and public that already gets hammered is a bit different then hunting whitetail in a state that's almost all private.
