Looking at getting a fiberglass topper for F150. The process is painful with having to request quotes and not begin able to see actual prices online. What are your opinions on the different models such as Leer, ARE, Snug Top, ect based on value and durability. Thanks

I bought a new truck in December and the next day I went to buy a Leer shell which would had been my third. I found out from the shop Leer had moved to Mexico. Leer and snugtop are made in the same plant. He told me they are not the same company. So I went with ARE, It took almost 10 weeks to arrive. The shop said Leer / snugtop aren’t the same company. If replacement parts are needed they take forever and sometimes show up wrong. My thoughtsDAEDFBB9-AEAF-4FAE-8424-99C6CD251817.jpeg

I bought a new a LEER truck cap in 2019. I live 10 minutes away from the factory, figured it'd be the right move.

I will never buy another with the bad locks, bad pistons, and constant leaking. I took it back 4 times for various issues before I just gave up. It leaks in even a mild rain. When parked on a slight decline with a heavy rain I'll get an inch or two of water pooled up against the cab.

Any of their models with side opening windows or the removable front window drains into the bed.

ARE midrise. Side windows open up, which I highly recommend. Carpeted roof to prevent condensation when sleeping in there. It was pricey (I bought it new), but worth it. No regrets.

Snugtop. Sportsmans model. Built in frame & carpeted. Can hold 800lbs on the rack.
Think I paid $1800 with matched paint 2005.

I have an ARE and it is great although it freezes shut in the winter/spring when there is melt/thaw. Mostly because there is a rubber lining that goes over the tailgate. That's not particular brand issue though. They are dang spendy. I think mine was close to 3k and I got only a few options. Try to find a dealer online and they should be able to get you a quote. Often those companies are running some kind of promo like free carpeting or window upgrades or something like that.

I went with a "Flated" topper. It is under 80 pounds, I can take it off or put it back on by myself. It deflates, and I can put it in my cargo carrier when I want to use the truck bed. I have a Honda 4-wheeler I use a lot, and it fits in the back. When I get to where I'm camping, I unload and put the topper on to camp. It has a 12-volt air pump and takes 10 minutes to inflate or deflate.

Can you drive with it inflated?

I've had my Leer for 8 years, it was leaking badly around the windows after 2 years, the rear glass/frame is falling apart, the gas pistons didn't last, removable/sliding front glass frame doesn't fit in the opening and has 1/2" of clear space if it slides all the way to one side, side window seals dried out and cracked after 4 years, I'll never buy another Leer
