the wife and I are going to make a two week summer loop through Montana.....any "don't miss", (from a photography potential for either mammals or birds), places that you, or anyone else in Montana, might recommend would be greatly appreciated ......

You could literally get a hundred different responses to this. If I were in your shoes, I'd figure out the rough path you're taking, what kind of stuff you really want to see, then start a new thread, you'll get some great responses.

Awesome photos! Reminds me of my youth when I used to burn through 2 bricks of .22lr per week in eastern Montana.

Especially the 3rd from the top, and the 2nd from the bottom. What the hell are they, I dunno - but I've shot over a thousand of them.
