Standard cpw transparency. I would assume it would have to be a cougar.

"COSTILLA COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Officials are investigating a possible animal attack that left someone dead.

The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating this alongside the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Deputies called this a “possible attack” on social media, saying it happened in the Sangre De Cristo Ranches. They shared that one person died, but so far, they said they cannot confirm if the death was linked to an animal attack. They also said they cannot say what animal might have been responsible for the attack, if it was an attack.

The El Paso County coroner is investigating and will determine the person’s cause of death.

In the meantime, Costilla county officials are asking everyone to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings."

Not pleasant but sometimes animals will interact with a body after a death from another cause and it might at first seem as though the person died in an attack from the tracks, sign, remains. So bear or lion (or heck, now wolves) may very well be involved but not actually guilty.

Strange that it’s been days since the initial report without tangible updates?
