I would cost out supplies and tools/ladders. Even if you buy a sprayer and a couple ladders it won't be terrible. I've painted a lot of houses, and sorta enjoy doing it. I did mine 2 summers ago. Paint and stain. I thinking was into it about $1200 in materials and a couple hundred in supplies. Took me 2 days to prep. And 5 days to paint/stain. Or 2 weekends and a few days after work All in I was about 80hrs of time. If I had to guess. 2600sf and half was ladder work.

All in painters probably get $100/hr, with overhead and profit. I never got a quote, but my buddy who's a painter guessed it around $10k. That would be about what I had in it. Just depends on what your time is worth. I'd guess it would be more now.

It's true that materials are more expensive than they were a few years ago, but my guess would be that the biggest thing that's changed is labor.

This is what the general public is in for until soccer moms and guidance counselors start pushing kids toward the trades. I think trade work is going to get pretty lucrative before that happens.

I painted my house and garage for @$2500 in paint, masking material, lift rental and paint sprayer.

If it’s a repaint, you might want to pressure wash your house before you paint it.

Buy a $300 sprayer and sell it on Craigslist when you’re done. It will take longer to mask off windows and doors than it will to spray the paint.

Also, you have the benefit of adding a second coat for increased protection. From my limited experience, I haven’t been super impressed with the amount of paint the painters use down here in Bozeman.

Some of those quotes… wow. I painted houses in college for $10/hr and that was only 15 years ago. Recently built a 20x10’ lean-to off my garage, painted it with a borrowed sprayer, and did it all in one weekend. Paint was the expensive part but worth it, matches the house.

Painted our whole house 5 years ago with very high quality paint ~$100/gal. So $700 in paint with a little leftover. Had an old retired family friend help for $20/hr, rolled and brushed it all on, pressure washed first. Nice coat, one and done - paint was a single application type. Has not lost a flake or spec since and we live in the mountains where we get all kinds of weather. Total was maybe $1500 using a lot of equipment we already owned.

Feed me elk sausage and a couple 12 packs of Rainier and I'd give it my best shot. I never could color in the lines though.
I'm with JR...probably could tackle in a weekend with enough buddies, beer, and processed meats. I bet we could get donated half gallons and make for a nice shade for baby poop green.

I hired a local painter who was trying to fund a Nintendo game at the time. He applied the solid stain as thick as plaster and his paint job is holding up well over 14 years later.
'Should have spent more time masking, as the clean-up job was worse than the painting. :D

I sure do like a kid willing to work!
He always has displayed an incredible work ethic and creative ideas in what he accomplishes. As oldest grandson, he was my hunting buddy for many years. Now he is on MSU Rodeo Team and working / training hard at that. After fall rodeo season, he is #1 nationally in collegiate rodeo steer wrestling and #3 all-around cowboy. (Hope I'm not jinxing him for spring rodeo.) To say I'm proud of him is a huge understatement.
