While not technically hunting, i wanted to give a kudos out to RMEF for re-introducing elk back to West Virginia!

This is one orginization that i definitely don't mind donating my hard earned money towards!

I agree, just wish VA didn't make it legal to shoot them when they cross the boarder outside our own relocation area. It just makes no sense.

I lived in Abingdon va for a few years and saw a couple elk out near the borders of Ky and was blown away to find out you can shoot them as a Virginia resident with only a deer tag. Never did shoot one but knew of some guys that did regularly

Let the Elk reproduce, instead of thining out he herd!
Az.gave them to you for a reason.Let them prosper.

I've complained about this a lot. I am told that VA is concerned about transient elk having chronic wasting. The other reason is that they don't want elk outside the relocation area to reduce conflict in larger agricultural areas. Apparently that is what lead to the destruction of the herf the last time they tried. For me, I don't understand spending that kind of money and then kill no cost animals that wander in. Seems like such a waste. I hope the WV herd does well. The four neighboring statew could have a good thing if they work together.

PA will kill an elk or 3 if they wander out of the "designated area".
According to them they "bring in sharp shooters"..
I've volunteered several time, but kindly get told to go away...

It doesn't help that there areas in va they cross into are generally very poor areas and still very much ( if it's on my land I can kill it)

Poaching was unreal there , everything from deer to trout, I knew of some guys that would follow the trout stocking truck and literally catch hundreds and keep every one.

I was sitting on a friends property during archery season and had just watched two yearlings walk past and out into a field and minutes later a truck pulled up on the road and gunned them down. I got plate number and called fish and game and they didn't care one bit. Said nothing they could do.

Usually because most areas outside of the designated areas are CWD management zones. Which is good imo. Pennsylvania has done an amazing job managing the elk herd. That's why other states have consistently reached out to them for guidance.
