Congratulations Dan. Now you've learned one of the most valuable lessons in Elk Hunting. never shoot an elk going up hill or down hill. They always run as far down as they can get before they die. Wait until they get above you then shoot them and come running out and scare them bad enough to run up hill. If you're real lucky, they will run out and die on the road. Preferably on the up hill side of the road..

Great story dgf. Great hunt and congrats to you and your party. Nothing like harvesting an elk with a bow and arrow is there!! I still remember the first elk I took with my bow in 1986 like it was yesterday. Wow what a rush!!!
