Eastern Sierra Bear Wanderings

Jquigley and I met up in the easter sierra in search of ursus americanus. Sadly this was my first trip to hunt the eastern sierra and I'm dissapointed in myself for not coming sooner. I guess it's time to draw an X zone tag.

Quigley brought his new trailer and cooked me breakfast.

Upon the first sunrise I was perplexed that we weren't hunting elk somewhere in Colorado.

We wandered around the hills looking for fresh sign and food sources. We found a thick, I mean thick patch of pinyon with a fresh track, but navigation was pretty much impossible so we perched on a high point hoping we could draw a bear out. Instead we blew a distress call and laughed at each other.

We also made sure we had the latest in technical gear.

The views were great, the country fantastic, but 48 hours to hunt makes it a bit tough.

We were near MWTC so when we got bored, we watched helicopters....err planes. And picked up some trash.

It was a good time in a great area worthy of much more exploration.

On a side note JR, I saw a pic on FB w/notes from Macs Sporting Goods in Bishop about a massive deer kill between Lone Pine & Bishop area recently.They were coming down during a storm & got to rain line high & it turned into an ice glazed mess.The pic had many bucks piled up dead & dying at the base of cliffs. Folks were slitting throuts to put them out of their misery.
I have seen similar small events up there. Have you seen any press about this die off tragedy?

The Eastern Sierras are one of my favorite places. Lots of bears in Mammoth Lakes, too bad you can't hunt in town...

That is some beautiful country. Great pics except for the pan with 4 lonely pieces of bacon, they need a lot more friends because that's not enough for anything.
