Draw Process Working Group Recommendations

The only way to eliminate point creep is to eliminate points. The old guard will never let that happen though. Also, eliminating point creep was never the mission of this working group - alleviating was a hope and a goal, and even then, not the only goal.

Anyway, creating an avenue for people without max points to potentially have a shot at max points tags is a great benefit to everyone.

IMO

They don’t even know what they passed. They essentially just voted to approve everything the DWG and CPW Staff agreed on and didn’t bother to vote on or even discuss the changes individually. If more than 2 commissioners even understand the draw process they sure didn’t show it yesterday.

But hey, at least 100 animal rights lion lovers got to waste a couple hours of everyone’s time during the public comment period crying about how they don’t want lions hunted because they just don’t like lion hunting.

I don’t agree with that. You can require point offloading at all opportunities. 2nd, leftover etc. any opportunity to make someone use their points would help combat point creep would it not?

that's just forcing people to choose.

the people with max points going for max points tags will likely choose to keep going for them. that's just not gonna change. and lets say it did change and like half max point holders bail the math still says if even half of the max points bail, those units will still creep for decades and decades given how few tags there are.

it would certainly probably combat new point hoarders. who knows what it would do to low and mid tier units.

to be honest, from my perspective i sometimes really like the way things are with points.

it really frees up the 0-3 point units. let all those ding dongs hoarding points keep hoarding em. keeps em out of the 1st choice 0-3 points units of which many have plenty good hunting.

this new 50/50 preference/bonus hybrid could even further free up the 0-3 points units as even more ding dongs with less points will switch over to using their 1st choice every year on their dream tag chance in the bonus draw.

While you make some valid points @TOGIE, you are only pointing out the benefits of what "point creep" really does. No argument.

Technically though, point creep is simply the fact that the amount of points being bought exceeds the amount of points being cashed in. If there are more points in the system, the amount of points required overall to be spent in a given year goes up.

There are only two ways to flatline or decrease the point creep. Either you need to decrease the points being bought or you need to increase the points being spent.

Methods to decrease points being bought are to increase the cost of gaining points or to restrict who can buy the points. Indirectly certain things can impact it as well.

Methods to increase points being spent would be to require more license obtaining methods to require the use of points.

nah. i maintain the only way to fix this is to burn it down.
