Doig

dang... more books for my list. Thankfully my daughter just signed me up for a library card

Any of them. The English Creek trilogy is excellent.

Dancing at the Rascal Fair and Ride with me Mariah Montana were two of my favorites. Bucking the Sun is excellent as well.
The Trilogy is a great read of a longer historical novel and really good. Bucking the Sun followed by The Bartender's Tale was an excellent couple of related novels for me, particularly since my grandparents homesteaded and had businesses during the Depression above the High Line and I grew up in Great Falls. Another good Doig novel related to Great Falls and WWII is the story of The Eleventh Man.

Dancing at the Rascal Fair. Then English Creek. Then House of Sky. I agree that Maria Montana wasn't as good as the earlier two.

Actually, couldn't get into any of them, as much as I thought I should...don't recall why, just flat for me YMMV.
