I bought a sheet of stamps at a US Post Office titled, “Endangered Species” today. (See bottom row in photo below.)

Apparently, the desert bighorn sheep is endangered, according to the US Postal Service.

Are we hunting an “endangered” species in several Western states? I thought they were increasing in numbers? Happy hunting, TheGrayRider.

Yes, the peninsular population of desert bighorn sheep are native ungulates that live on the desert slopes of the Peninsular Ranges in San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial Counties. This population is federally listed as endangered1. California’s desert bighorn sheep are threatened by a combination of habitat fragmentation, habitat loss, and modification, human disturbance, transportation construction, disease, poaching, and fire suppression
