deer population

hey guys i am from northwest iowa.....over here i see plenty of deer but some pple say deer population went down a long wase. What do you guys have to say about it

If you guys are accurate, what do you think the reason is? Has there been any EHD in your areas recently?

EHD hit us hard this year in Nebraska. I'm sure it crossed the border at got into SD and IA as well.

Interesting map showing distribution of EHD cases and the numbers of affected animals. Be a tough situation you guys are in with having managed deer herds knocked around.

Found several dead deer in SE Iowa, quite a few does and 2 nice bucks (5x5 and 6x6) this fall. Landowner feels deer herd is down significantly compared to what he has seen years past. Harvest allotment is probably another factor, but I haven't looked into long term harvest trends.

we have found a few dead but it could have just been coyotes

The numbers on that map are way low as well. That is just what's been reported. I also saw plenty of sick deer in eastern Wyoming this fall.

We had a number of localized areas here in southern Michigan this year that had large numbers of dead deer found and EHD was verified as the culprit thorugh Lab testing..
