Deer Head Stolen

Long time ago my dad told me to put a very small slit behind the ear. Stick a penny or something in it. IF you find the head you can prove its yours.

People out there carrying rifles that can send it better than a mile, gotta be on meth or just plain stupid to go screwing with peoples trucks or horns. I’ve locked em in the back seat and brought em in hotel rooms myself. Had a pretty nice 6 pt euro stolen in Belgrade off the side of the house not even visible from the street behind a gate. 2018ish, first time I started locking my doors since moving to Montana.

In need of a taxidermist:

Can anybody point me to a good taxidermist near Kalispell?

Years ago on a Utah GS muzzleloader hunt, I shot a very nice buck. It was a 4x5 with a 31.5 inch spread. Still one of my biggest bucks. I was a deputy sheriff at the time. As I was cleaning the deer, I had two hunters come up on me. One of them asked what I thought my chances were of keeping the deer. I hope he was joking but I didn’t take it that way. He didn’t laugh and looked serious. As I was bent over cleaning the deer, I simply put my pistol on the deer and responded “pretty good”. The other guy got a little freaked out and immediately said it was illegal to carry a firearm during muzzleloader season. I simply put my badge on the deer. We had a few tense words as they left. They never bothered me or the deer but it was not a good feeling. One of a few times I was very glad to be armed in the woods.

Crazy what people will do for a dead animal. I can’t imagine how you would feel about an animal head you had stolen in the woods. Real bragging rights there…

Wow.

On another note: It's illegal to carry concealed during ml seasons?

I may be a bit paranoid at times but with all the stuff getting stolen at TH and other places. I usually will snap a photo of any other trucks parked in the area when I’m hiking in. Just incase I get back and something goes missing. We had a couple thefts in our neighborhood in the last year. One was a firearm out of a truck. I added a camera outside. Used to leave my doors and cars unlocked when I first moved to Montana. Not anymore.

I do the same thing.

It was at the time. I believe the laws have changed…if you have a concealed carry permit. At the time, over 20 years ago, it was illegal to carry a firearm in Utah during muzzleloader and archery seasons ( if you were hunting muzzleloader or archery season). I know the guy didn’t expect me to have a firearm and the dynamic changed quickly because of my firearm.
