My 18 yo daughter has been wanting to have something mounted for a long time to put in her room. I let her stay out of school one morning and took her to kill some wood ducks last Oct and it turned out great! Although very common, not too many ducks are as pretty as a wood drake, so I knew it would be a great start to her life long quest for trophys. She killed two at first light and one was this drake. For a early season bird, he turned out pretty good! ;)

Not bad after they looked like this!

She has taken a few deer, but none qualify to be mounted. I won`t stop her from shooting anything legal, whether it`s a doe or spike. I want her to have fun! She does want to go out west to kill an antelope one year.

That's a great looking duck. I wish they were common where I hunt, I've always wanted a wood duck drake and I am yet to get my first one, so in my opinion she's off to a great start on a trophy room. Congrats to her and to you for getting her out there and hunting, spending time outdoors with your kids pays big dividends.

Great looking mount! Kudos to you for taking them hunting also, a hunting trip with the kids is awesome. I have been taking my boy since he was 2, now that he is 4 we are going to attempt a bow hunt this year.

Very nice mount! Congrats to your daughter. I'm anxiously awaiting those days with my two boys.

You should be very proud of your young huntress. In this day and age not many young women aspire to hunting or for the outdoor life. That is a beautiful drake wood duck. We need more women in the sport of hunting. Enjoy! MTG

Wood duck is one cool looking bird. Love the mount. Good luck to you and your family for future trophies!

I always look when I hear the woodies go by when I'm out in the yard. They are special, and you got a really nice mount.

There is nothing like hunting with your kids.

Like I said, woodies are special, but there are some other trophy ducks out there too. The cinnamon teal and barrows goldeneye are two.
