The Canada border will open to US Citizens that are fully vaccinated on Aug. 9.
Unvaccinated minors younger than 12 entering Canada with vaccinated parents or guardians will not have to quarantine for 14 days.
Fully vaccinated travelers may not need a post-arrival test unless they have been randomly selected at the port of entry.
All travelers coming into Canada will need a negative PCR or molecular test within 72 hours of requesting entry.

Canada is threatening a $750,000 fine and/or jail time for possession of fake COVID-19 vaccination card.

I hadn’t read the part about kids under 12. That is good news! My wife and I will not be getting our kids vaccinated until their has been more research done on the vaccines. We just assumed we wouldn’t be able to go north all together.

Hey everyone go get this shot that we whipped up in a couple months.. Who cares about the long term health concerns in the future, we didn’t have enough time to test that. I have nothing against the vaccine for those who have gotten it, but I will not be a test dummy for this new COVID vaccine lol

This thread was about providing information for those Hunt Talkers with interests in traveling to Canada. Please refrain from the anti Vaccine rants. Plenty of other places on the internet for that. Welcome to HT ! Great place for hunters sharing info !!

One portion I didn't see mentioned yet:

This is directly from the Canadian government website:

How to use ArriveCAN

All travellers, with limited exceptions, whether entering Canada by air or land, must use ArriveCAN. You’ll need to submit your information within 72 hours before your arrival to Canada.

ArriveCAN is available to download as a mobile app or you can create an account and sign in online.

Fraud alert

Be cautious of third party, fraudulent webpages and apps that may be posing as ArriveCAN and asking you for payment. ArriveCAN is free and secure and is the official Government of Canada platform to provide your information when entering Canada.

Use ArriveCAN to provide mandatory travel information on and after your entry into Canada. It only takes minutes to help keep each other safe.

Available for iOS, Android and online.

ArrivCan does make your crossing much smoother, particularly verifying COVID testing/vaccination requirements. It is a clunky site but be patient. I have had problems punching in dates/times of planned trip. Just change them around till the site let's you proceed. Explain the problem with dates when you cross. The agents know about the problem with site. Not sure how the random testing will work but if you get the kit, log onto the site early in the morning or you'll be stuck in a very long queue waiting for online nurse. The site opens at six and closes at nine p.m. If you're in the queue at nine you're SOL. I know about that! I am told that flight arrivals require COVID test within 72 hours before departure of flight starting the trip. This could have been an issue for my trip to Africa as the flight there takes almost two days and getting test results before leaving can take up to three days.

If the COVID situation continues to get worse in US, expect the border to close again. I'm actually surprised it opened. Credit Canada's very high vaccination rate (which continues to rise). We're doing our part but this new variant is a game changer.

My uncle is going up this coming week. I thought he would be the first in line August 9, but he is waiting a few days because he thinks the line at I-falls is going to be 18 hours long. Anyone else expecting long waits at their crossing?

Chatted with the border guy at Rainy River when I crossed back into Canada last week. He said they're expecting it to be nuts. I need to cross this week sometime to pick up my gun from gunsmith in WI. Long lineup and no air conditioning in my vehicle does not sound like fun. I'll try to time it so I'm driving back during the wee hours. Can't do any shopping down there to kill time because I need to stay clean for pre-departure COVID test before my Africa trip. Export documents for my hunting guns FINALLY came through last night (equivalent to your ATF Form 6). I applied back in April! Required me becoming a big pain in the ass but I'm retired US govt so familiar with what's needed to make bureaucrats work. Working from home during pandemic was just an eighteen month long coffeebreak for those guys.

Edit: The shooters supply store down there says their gunsmith has "gone rogue." Yet they expect him back in the shop on Monday & Tuesday. WTF? He's not answering his phone, texts, or email. Looks like I'm crossing the border tomorrow. Be paying a visit to the local sheriff's office when I get there for an escort to the guy's house. Man, what else can go wrong? This trip has been jinxed tenfold ... literally.

For those traveling further North. Yukon has opened their borders, to those who have been fully vaccinated and with documentation. Northwest Territories and Nunavut have not. I am amazed at how much people are willing to pay to hunt moose and sheep. Pleasantly amazed I might add

Thank God Canada is keeping the unwashed masses out of their country.
Well, the unvaccinated anyway. I see they nailed a couple at the airport trying to get in with fake vaccination records. Five grand fine each as I recall. A big thank you to idiots whose fines help pay for the cost of policing this program.

Yup got a call from my outfitter yesterday giving me the heads up. Couldn’t take his last minute opening. I will be in Alberta and NWT next year. Thanks for the info

I was trying to cross back into Canada Sunday morning after picking up my Africa gun from the gunsmith ... in four pieces. Long story. Got into the line at 8:30 a.m. and finally to the customs window NINE HOURS LATER. No exaggeration. Exactly nine hours and in 95 degree heat. No air conditioning and no shade. The dogs drank more than four litres of water. Awful.

I went to Canada two months ago.
Flew into Calgary then FSJ.

Nobody checked the app or the QR Code.

Interaction with Canadian customs consisted of “where are you going? Oh, that sounds fun. How long will you be in Canada? Good luck” all in about 15 seconds.

Canadian customs for me has always been so much easier (and more polite) than USA customs, even with firearms.

The ArriveCan is associated with your Passport. They do not specifically need to see your ArriveCan, nor request your phone QR code. Whether U.S. or Canadian Customs, it's like any job, there are tards / chips on shoulder Officers as there are arrogant HT members.
I've dealt with chits on both sides and I cross frequently - involved in the field of quality and turds.

Opinions developed and generalizations placed. Nature of humans. Not knocking on your opinion... It's the theme of opinions based on experience though experience... Well, YMMV.
