Such beautiful country. I’m glad you enjoyed the experience with your wife!A month before my trip I had sprained my MCL in my good knee and by the time I got to Kodiak the pain seemed to be peaking.
Flew out to Old Harbor and inflated 2 Alpacka Caribous. With strong wind in our faces we attempted to paddle along the shoreline past the native property boundaries. My wife couldn't control her raft and was going nowhere fast so I decided to tow her raft while she walked the shoreline. It was too slow going towing her raft with all the gear against the wind so I decided to walk the shallow waters alongside my wife while I towed both rafts.
There weren't any waves, just a surge so it was easy going. Shortly after passing the boundary a small wave came out of nowhere and flipped both rafts. Frantically I fished my guns from the surf and began rescuing the dry bags and rafts.
One dry bag had numerous small holes from overuse and it was surprising how fast the water got inside drenching everything.
We quickly set up camp to dry everything and I went to a nearby stream to wash the salt and sand from my guns.
This became our camp but not by choice.
With my mobility limited and some days lost to weather I didn't see much. Passed on a spike and later passed on a doe 20 yards from the tent.
Saw a beautiful silver fox 50 yards away and got too excited and rushed an off-hand shot and missed.
Later shot a cross fox at around 200 yards.
Passed on Harlequins and Barrows Goldeneye everyday as the swam in front of our tent. I've killed plenty of them before and didn't feel inspired to kill any more of them.
Had to pack all our gear in 2 trips back to Old Harbor because the sea was too rough.
Except for my knee it was an awesome trip.
On the Seattle to San Diego flight home I couldn't bear sitting down, the most painful position for my knee, so I stood for the entire 3 hour flight except for take off and landing.
