OT: Debit/Credit Card Security

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some low down swine bastage got ahold of my debit card number. I use internet banking for nearly 100% of my transactions on my business account. This morning I log on and there are 22 transactions pending, ie they have not "hard posted" to my account.

Totaled up to nearly $6,700 worth of stuff at Eddy Bauer, Next Ten. They bought themselves a P90 X Work out video fro $120, $231 bucks for Itune's!!!
Also a nice Roomba auto vacuum for their pad.

Anyway called my bank and they said that there has been a rash of fraud that started yesterday and hit alot of accounts. They knew immediately when they pulled up the account that the number had been keyed in an not card swiped. The crappy part is that is can take up to 45 days to get credited back my account.

I wish I could catch the lowlife's that do this and do some not very nice things to them.

So be vigilant on you credit and debit cards.

Happened to my brother about two weeks ago. Dude paid his cable and electricity bill in England with it. It should be fairly easy to identify the guy with a tiny bit of help from the service providers, but who knows if anything will come of it.

Happened to me a few weeks ago, but my bank credited my account the next day while it was under investigation. Didn't have to wait months for it.

:mad:That really blows... we only use Credit card for everyday purchases & limit the use of the Debit card for cash only. Can really screw up a budget if your account gets emptied.

Hope they get yours straightened out sooner than 45 days.

Hey Nemont...

Thanks for the stuff. I'm wearing some of it right now. :)

I got my first debit card the other day and this old country hick is more than a little nervous about it. The account pays over 3 percent interest, but requires at least one direct deposit per month and ten debit card transactions per month. I have made five debit card transaction so far this month on my way to ten, grocery store, fast food and fuel. Plenty easy, but I worry about the safety of it. I am monitoring it daily online, but am afraid as the new wears off and it becomes common place with me I might let my guard down and someone bleed my account.

I have to try something new, my old banking system is causing me trouble(cannot find cream cans anymore).

Sorry to hear some scum bag hit your account. Good luck and I hope they are caught and prosectued to the fullest extent.

They will, eventually.

Problem with a Debit Card is the money comes out as soon as the transaction is posted.
The money is gone, then you have to get it back.

You have tons more security with a Credit Card.

Nemont,

Other than the annoyance factor, at the end of the day does the bank reimburse you for losses?

They do reimburse me. Just a PITA.

far more alarming is that Belly Deep is out there entertaining in lingerie paid for with money stolen from my debit card.

Funny this thread got running a few days ago. I got a call at work and from the little I could make out they were from a large financial institution and asked for the last four digits of my SS number. I refused as I don't have an account with that institution and if I did why would they call me at work...
