Colorado OTC Merriams Spring

Can anyone point me in the general direction for Merriam turkeys in Colorado. I'm a brand new hunter and looking to get a chance at these birds. I read the info on the State websites and see the most successful counties to go and gone over the turkey distribution map. I'm not looking for your secret spots (unless you want to share, haha) but looking for just a general suggestion of some public land to try on.

I'd agree for the front range as well. Just get out there and you'll figure it out alot better than we can help you.

If you can get access we saw multitudes along our drive to Texas last week, not going to publish the route on here though. They were strutting all along the drainage.

look at the turkey layer on the hunt atlas. then go do some crow calls.

I looked at the draw statistics for Beaver Creek SWA, now that they split it into two seasons anyone with zero points wont be able to hunt that area in April for four years. Its 8 points minimum to get a tag. Looks like ill be scouting OTC Units for a few years.

Colorado has great OTC spring and fall hunting. If you can hunt on weekdays, and not on the front range, you won't see anyone else either

I found a dozen birds the other day, doing their thing, strutting around...and absolutely silent and unresponsive to calls...that's Dr. bird to you, sir!

Like elk, Turkeys are where you find them...Or do you find them where they are? I haven't been able to figure it out yet.....

Park your bike, hunt all morning, then come back to turkey tracks walking right past your bike. Or, just wait by your bike next time.

That is a beautiful snowbird, congrats!

Another general tip...if you find them one place...don't necessarily expect them to be there in a couple days. Mountain Merriam's can easily move miles per day.

Drive the paved roads up the canyons, get out at every pull off and cut a few times. You'll find a few.
