COLORADO OTC DIY BULL. With My Packgoat

Got it done in southern Co this past week. Hunted one of my favorite otc units in a wilderness area with my packgoat fred. Fred carries 50lbs of gear and loves to go on hunts and do his "job" Ive got 5 more young packgoats that will be old enough to pack next fall.
I hiked in 6 miles and was into bugling bulls every morning and evening. In fact the bull i killed was bugling above a wallow at 1:00 in the afternoon when i shot him. Saw some giant mule deer bucks, and plenty of bears. It was a fantastic hunt, and the 3rd yr in a row ive taken a bull in this area on solo backcountry hunts. Saw a 300 class herd bull the same day i killed this bull, but im not to picky about the size of a bull, on a tough otc hunt like this. I couldnt be happier!!!

This unit sure has been an amazing "backup plan" while i get points and apply for premium tags in other states.

South San Jaun Wilderness. Its beautiful in there, but it is some deep steep rugged country. High elevation too. killed this bull at 10,800ft.

Great Job Shedzilla on the bull. I hunted with a friend who had four pack goats and boy are they great. At first I was worried that they would spook the game, but after watching both elk and deer just look at them for a couple seconds and then ignore them, my mind was put at ease. They made quick work of getting both camp and game off the mountain as well.

Sawtooth.. U are correct. Here is fred less than 25 yds from a good mule deer buck that i walked within 18yds of after the buck decided that Fred was "freindly"
The buck absolutley ignored any sounds i made while sneaking closer because he assumed it was fred. Very cool!

That's close to where I hunted on my only elk trip. Between Durango and Pagosa north of 160.

Congrats on a great hunt using a super pack animal. Do you have any trouble finding feed in the high country, that Fred likes? I'm curious, is Fred an Alpine breed?

Congrats, very cool. I love the kicker on that mule deer. My roommate in college had two pet goats. The goats and I didn't get along, long story, I almost ate one of them. Looks like Fred doesn't need to be eaten.
