Hey guys,
I have a Cow Moose tag for Colorado (up the Poudre). I have a buddy that has two Llamas, he has volunteered to be on call for if/when I get one on the ground. Question concerning the size of these animals. I’ve never hunted moose before, would you equate a cow to a large bull elk, maybe just taller. That’s kinda what’s in my head. I want to make sure I have good game bags and solid plan. I’ve been scouting and finding them within .5 miles of the road, but I’m “planning” for them to be further away just to be prepared.

Thanks!

Thanks! I have a feeling she will be much larger than I expect! I know every time I walk up on an elk I’m still surprised! I grew up shooting Florida deer even though I’ve been in Colorado for almost 15 years the sizes still get me.

I can't say how much they weigh, but I saw several in the Breckenridge area two weeks ago. They are huge bodies on skinny legs. Large pony to small horse size. Expect more than one pack out trip. One was on the trail I was walking on at about thirty yards and wouldn't leave. Started walking towards me. I've been within twenty feet of black bear sows with cubs and never been afraid something bad was about to happen. However, I was concerned that time! I backed up in a semi circle and let him pass without an incident. Good luck on your hunt!

That’s what the scale read at the butcher shop, don’t know what to tell you. Now comes a smart ass comment about the scale I’m sure

1300 lbs? thats the weight of a finished feedlot steer on the hoof...somebody open the door, its gettin a little windy in here!

I've got a bull moose tag in 7/8/191...any info on good areas would be much appreciated. I was up scouting this weekend and saw some nice bulls, but more info the better. And..how big was your cow from last year?

Welcome to Hunt Talk. I was not in those units, but I’ve spent plenty of time in those areas, sounds like you already have seen some bulls, so I’d say concentrate on the areas you’re seeing them in. Good luck!
