Close But No Dice

Took my son out into a 4 Brow Tine or 50”+ unit and had a great experience with a bull I wanted so bad- but couldn’t make him legal.
He wouldn’t give us a view at 120 yards, got him in to 45-50 and finally got a good frontal view. Couldn’t stretch him to 50” so we watched him at 67 yards and then again we found him an hour later farther into the valley at 167- took me a while to realize it was him again. Got to watch him for about an hour, or a bit over during this ordeal- following around his cow.
Good judgment on my part, great experience for my son and a good teaching opportunity!

thanks, and he was so excited just seeing him that close and messing with his cow.
It was fun - though I wish he was legal. But I have one more chance this season so we shall see!

When I hunted AK in 2012, we chose an area that didn’t have the 50” minimum, because I was concerned about just that. My bull ended up being 55” but I still would have been hesitant if it had to meet the minimum. Get back out and 4 brow tines and be done! Good luck to you.
