civil war reenactment

The largest civil war reenactment in the western U.S. is held near my home each year. I though it would be interesting and educational for my kid.

Union troops head to battel. There were at least 1,000 soldiers total between both sides

This homemade fiddel caught my attention.

The Confederate artillery making smoke and noise. About a dozen cannons, plus mortars. The sound was too much for Erik, he had to back off a few hundred yards.

Lots of calvary

But the confederates drafted him

As a kid, I thought those were the coolest things!!! Looks like a good time. I'm just surprised to see one in CA...

We have thoses for the Battle of Mansfield in North Louisiana. Pretty Cool, but the Battlefield is being threatened by a Surface Coal Mining operation. It seems that is one war they like to bury. John

They do a different battle each year. This year was the battle of Charleston, S.C.

Yes, lots of them

I like seeing that stuff but surely wouldn't want to hae lived in those times.....

Anyone who does think it would be cool only need to talk to these reenactors, a Union doctor and nurses complete with antique surgical instruments.

A cut away life size replica of the HL Hunley, the first successful submarine.
Successful is a matter opinion. The confederate sub sunk a few union ships, but then they forgot to come up for air.
It was recovered intact a few years ago in Charleston harbor.
