Judge Malloy is not real popular with me right now.

Since its been so hot I decided to go sit my stand over the wallow where I had got some pictures of bulls back in August. I thought the elk might be coming back to water.

When I got to my stand there were a ton of moose tracks and a few elk tracks. It didn't look promising but I climbed into my stand anyway. It was about 5 p.m.

After an hour or so I heard a stick break about 60 yards away. I couldn't see that far through the thick timber but I kept alert for whatever broke that stick. A minute or two later, I head splashing in a small pool of water. Great! I could imagine a bull getting a drink before heading on down the trail to my waterhole.
Then the splashing turned to the distinct sound of a dog lapping water.??????? It was unmistakeable, that was no elk. It had to be either a bear or a wolf. I dug in my pack for my camera and got ready. Then I heard a whine.
The brush started cracking and I saw movement coming down the trail. It definitely was more than one animal.

This is what stepped out 30 yards away. The pics aren't that great because I was busy trying to look and the camera had a hard time focusing through the brush. There were two grey phase wolves, both adults.

They hung around in this small opening for a minute or so before heading away through the thick brush. I think they smelled where I had walked an hour before because they were within about ten yards of being in the open beside the waterhole and turned around without stepping into the wide open.

I tried cow calling them back to get some more pics but I didn't hear anything else. Fifteen minutes later I shot my blunt arrow where they had been, I just wanted to see if I could have killed one of them had not@%$@#%% Malloy shut the season down. The wolf would have been dead.

Heres the pics I got.

That's pretty cool having one that close.
You'll get your chance at one soon enough though, we'll have a season before too long.

All i can say is....CHIT, you are a better man than I............for using a blunt instead of a broadhead:):);) ......and not shooting it sooner...

That sucks, i wouldn't expect much elk in your wallow anytime soon:)
